It is time to get out on the road and take a trip with friends and family! The Northwest has a ton of great road trip destinations, especially if you are starting from Seattle! So let’s take a look at the best summer road trips in the Northwest!
Olympic National Park
If you are looking for a quick day trip, we suggest Olympic National Park! You’ll get a bit of everything in Olympic National Park, whether it be pebbly beaches or temperate rain forests! Keep an eye out for bald eagles and mountain goats when here at Olympic National Park and make sure to take in the fantastic views! The park is only 2 hours by car from Seattle, making it perfect for those who want a nice road trip, but want to stay relatively local.
Yellowstone National Park
A road trip to Yellowstone National Park will provide you with a great end destination while having fun locations to stop at on the way as well! On the way from Seattle, you can stop halfway in Missoula, Montana, and experience the great town. Check out the Missoula Art Museum or grab a drink at the Montgomery Distillery! Once arriving at Yellowstone National Park, you can’t miss the Old Faithful geyser or Upper Geyser Basin!
Coeur d’Alene, Idaho
Coeur d’Alene, Idaho is a great road trip destination, especially for those who want a lakeside getaway! It provides the perfect blend of luxury and nature as there are fantastic hotels and cozy campsites in the area. This road trip can be done year-round as Coeur d’Alene is lively during the summer and winter! So whether you want to go swimming during the summer or check out the Christmas lights and decorations during the winter, Coeur d’Alene is a fantastic road trip destination!
Mendocino, California
This 13 hour, 700+ mile road trip will take you through some of the most picturesque spots in the Northwest. On your way down the coast, check out Coos Bay and Newport as these Oregon towns are top destinations. Make sure to check out the Redwood National and State Parks as these are fantastic places to take a break, stretch your legs, and take in some amazing views. Once you reach Mendocino, you can experience some cliff-side trails, fantastic restaurants, and luxurious resorts!
San Juan Islands
The San Juan Islands are a great destination for nature and wildlife lovers. There are about 172 islands and reefs that make up the San Juan Islands, but the ones we recommend visiting on this road trip are Orcas Island, Lopez Island, and San Juan Island. The San Juan Islands are a hot spot for whale watching, especially Orcas. You can also see humpback and grey whales along with sea lions, porpoises, and harbor seals while visiting the San Juan Islands. There are plenty of places to stay on the islands such as luxury hotels and spacious rental homes, so the possibilities are endless when road tripping here!
